Seniors housing developers compete for Global Award

MUMBAI: The thirty fifth entry for the seniors housing Global Awards 2017 has been received.

Peachland’s tallest building will be a five-storey seniors’ housing complex.

The town of Peachland will continue to own the land, with funding for the $10-million project coming from the provincial government. That financial commitment was made in November 2015.

“This location is ideally suited to a seniors’ housing development,” reads part of a staff report to council, indicating such things as a level terrain, proximity to downtown amenities and access to a bus route.

Sixty people attended an open house on the project in February, with many saying they looked forward to one day living in the building.

Although nearly one-third of Peachland’s 5,200 residents are older, there has long been a shortage of housing geared specifically to the needs of older people.
